Our research team participates in CIES 2025 conference in Chicago

Our international research team made a strong showing at the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) 2025 conference in Chicago, March 22-26. Seven team members from different countries presented their latest research findings on topics ranging from youth activism and global citizenship education to STEM education discourses and digital spaces for civic engagement.

The conference provided an invaluable opportunity for our globally distributed team to connect in person, share insights, and engage with the broader international education community. Team members Tara Bartlett, Carla Inguaggiato, Simon Eten, Margarita Kiryushina, Tanya Khavenson, and Vanessa Sperduti delivered presentations that sparked meaningful discussions about youth empowerment, educational practices, and global engagement across diverse contexts.

A highlight of our participation was Dr. Miri Yemini chairing the special session “Investigating the empowerment of youth activists” on March 26. The session also included presentations by STUDACT project collaborators and our co-authors Katarzyna Jasikowska, Garth Stahl and Ullrich Bauer. The session explored the multifaceted dimensions of youth activism in educational settings and beyond, reinforcing our lab’s commitment to understanding how young people engage with and shape global issues. The energizing atmosphere of the conference has inspired new collaborative research directions that we look forward to pursuing in the coming months.
