New research examines health promotion policies in Israeli education system
People&Planet Lab is pleased to announce a new publication by Noya Dahan and Eran Tamir from Tel Aviv University, along with our lab head Prof. Miri Yemini, titled “Health promotion in the Israeli education system: a policy analysis through an intersectional lens” in Sport, Education and Society journal. This groundbreaking study employs qualitative methods to analyze health promotion policies within Israeli schools, examining 24 policy documents spanning 2011-2023 alongside interviews with senior policymakers.
The research reveals significant gaps in how health promotion policies address Israel’s multicultural society, particularly concerning minority and low-income students. The authors identify a concerning absence of programme evaluations over the past decade and highlight the substantial involvement of external organizations implementing these policies with minimal oversight. By applying an intersectional lens, the study exposes potential health disparities between ethnic and socioeconomic groups, providing valuable insights for policymakers seeking to create more equitable health promotion strategies in educational settings.
