Nadezhda Iankelevich

PhD student (2024-2028)

Short biography

Nadezhda (Nadia) Iankelevich is a PhD candidate at the Technion whose people-centred research explores how young people in democratic societies use Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat/X to speak about public issues and build activist identities—bridging civic education, science education, and digital literacy. Her project pairs semi-structured interviews with systematic analysis of participants’ public content. Her recent co-authored paper, “Bridging the Civic and Science Education: Analyzing the Repertoire of Youth Environmental Activism on Social Media,” was presented at ESERA 2025 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Trained in psycholinguistics (MA with honours, Dostoevsky Omsk State University), Nadia previously studied students’ linguistic consciousness and how professional communities interpret official documents. In 2022 she made Aliyah from Russia—an experience that grounds her interest in voice, belonging, and agency during life transitions.
Beyond the university, Nadia serves as Head of Communications for The Walks, supporting teenagers from migrant families in Israel, and co-founded Ulpan Politica, a volunteer initiative that builds civic literacy among Russian-speaking newcomers.
